Because DXA only measures the bone mineral density (BMD) of your cortical (outer) layer of bone, a poor score often leads to overprescription of meds when that may not be necessary.
REMS measures your cortical AND trabecular (inner) bone, and tells you your true fracture risk. If you want the most accurate, comprehensive assessment of your bone health that is currently available, you must get a REMS scan.
